Truly Devious Trilogy Book(s) Review

Summary

Awkward teen Stevie Bell is a true crime fanatic and amateur detective. So naturally, it’s a dream come true when she is accepted to Ellingham Academy, the elite Vermont school that also happens to be the location of the crime of the century: the Ellingham murders.

But, at Ellingham, nothing is what it seems and when a student turns up dead, it’s only the start of a string of deadly “accidents”. Stevie and her new friends are on the case, and it seems that the past is more closely connected to present-day Ellingham than ever.

Review

I decided to review the Truly Devious trilogy as a trilogy rather than just the first book in the series, which is what I normally do because this trilogy is sort of like one giant mystery novel. The Truly Devious series is a brilliantly executed mystery, with intertwining storylines set in the past and present. This series boasts the eccentric and eclectic cast of characters essential to any good murder mystery. The whole trilogy is filled with shocking twists, turns and unexpected discoveries. Truly Devious is the intriguing beginning, filled with details that you won’t see the importance of until later. The Vanishing Stair is where the case is further explored, and the stakes raised. And of course, my favourite part of the series, The Hand on the Wall is the finale, which kept me on the edge of my seat, as any good mystery should. I’d highly recommend this series to lovers of classic Agatha Christie-style mysteries, and the Murder Most Unladylike series by Robin Stevens.
